Eugene Newell founded Newell Equipment, Inc. in 1959 although it was not officially called Newell Equipment, Inc. until a later date.

Gene Newell started with the Gledhill Road Machinery Co. of Galion, Ohio in 1959 as a sales representative. In the early days, Gene traveled the United States selling the Gledhill "Mobilweigh" which was a portable weighing station. These weigh stations were sold to police agencies nationwide.

At the time, Gene's father, Gail Newell, was also a sales representative for Gledhill Road Machinery. In fact, Gail Newell is believed to have been the first salesman hired by Gledhill founder Ed Gledhill in the mid 1930's.

During those days, Gledhill Road Machinery offered their customers a variety of products besides just snow plows. The Gledhill "Road Grader" was one of the first products manufactured at their Galion, Ohio facility. Other products included Roadside Sprayers, Road Shapers, Earth Movers, Leaf Loaders and Salt Spreaders.

In 1974, Gene purchased a small farm that was utilized as the company office and mounting facility. Up until that time, the majority of the equipment installations were done at the Gledhill Road Machinery mounting shop and the office work was performed at Gene's Galion, Ohio home. This small farm served its purpose until 2002.

In 1981, Brian Newell joined his father in the family business and is currently in charge of sales and the day-to-day operations of Newell Equipment, Inc.

Truck equipment has evolved greatly over the last 5 decades. Where once the basic control to raise the snowplow was a hand pump operated by the driver of the truck has now been replaced by state of the art electronic control systems. Dump bodies and salt spreaders that were once made of mild steel prone to rust are now manufactured with corrosion resistant stainless steel. Truck lighting systems that once consisted of a single rotating beacon light on the truck cab have been replaced by a wide variety of strobe and LED light configurations.

Similar to the evolution of trucks and truck equipment, Newell Equipment, Inc. has also evolved. To better serve our customers and also our loyal suppliers, we recently opened our new facility located in Galion's Industrial Park on State Route 598 just North of Galion.
